This achievement is a testament to the growing diversity and talent within the UPSC community.
Shakti Dubey's UPSC Odyssey
Dubey, originally from Prayagraj, embarked on her UPSC journey in 2018, with a biochemistry degree from Banaras Hindu University. Her initial dream was to become a doctor, but life had other plans. "I was a PCB student, but my rank led me to dentistry, so I chose a BSc instead," she shares. Her path to success was not without challenges, with five failed attempts before finally achieving her goal.
"I didn't even clear prelims in my first three attempts. In the fourth, I reached the interview but couldn't make it. Last year, I missed the cut-off by a mere 12 marks. It was my lowest point, and I thought of giving up," she confesses. But Dubey's resilience and determination kept her going, and she found a way to survive the journey by treating each day as a small step towards her goal.
Harshita Goyal's Unbelievable Triumph
For 24-year-old Harshita Goyal, securing All India Rank 2 was an "unbelievable" feat. In her third attempt, Goyal, a commerce graduate and Chartered Accountant, finally cleared the prelims and interview stages. "The feeling of securing AIR 2 is difficult to describe. I was confident, but with the uncertainty of UPSC results, making it to the top three feels surreal. I've made my family proud, especially my mother, who passed away due to cancer ten years ago," she shared with The Indian Express.
