Rickie Hurtubiase clinches the GRIDCo Centre of the World Golf Club Championship in Tema, continuing his family’s notable winning run in golf.
The Canada-based golfer finished with a three-day total of 229, shooting rounds of 77, 75, and 77. He held off a tightly contested field to secure the victory, beating runners-up Jibril Kassim (233), Desmond Abban (234), and Frank Torgah (234).
After receiving his trophy in the presence of his parents, Hurtubiase spoke to reporters about his joy at the win, crediting consistent training and thorough preparation for his success.
The GRIDCo Centre of the World Golf Club Championship drew a diverse field of professionals, scratch players, and amateurs, with over 100 golfers from across the country participating. The event was sponsored by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) along with Bel Aqua, Nester Home, Royal Senchi, Zed Multimedia, and The Finder.
In the Men’s Main Division, Kingsley Okechukwu Landers earned first place, followed by George Wisbon Mensah and Ackah Blay in second and third places respectively.
In Men’s Category A, Gustave Godonou took the title, with Dennis Etwi-Barimah and Charles Kumi finishing second and third. Men’s Group B was won by Michael Sackitey, Abdallah Andani, and Philip Dodu Fynn, while Patrick Amoah Bekoe, Yaw Asamoah, and Cecil Kwatchey topped Men’s Group C.
Catherine Fabbi dominated the Ladies Division, securing the overall win with 74 points, ahead of Hawa Brito and Naomi Teye-Lartey. Letitia Amponsah-Mensah won Ladies Category A, besting Floria Hurtubise and Adiatu Tiamiyu, while Patricia Adusei-Poku led Ladies Group B ahead of Angelica Ayanful and Akua Afriyie Tamakloe.
In the Seniors Division, Samuel Osei Bediako, Joshua Preprah, and Hellen Apau were recognized for their performances, alongside the winners of several auxiliary prizes.
Club Captain Ruben Kwame Kordorwu presided over the ceremonial tee-off, joined by the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto II. He expressed satisfaction with the high turnout and thanked sponsors—chiefly GRIDCo—for their support.
Representing GRIDCo, Samuel Kow Acquah, Acting Director of the Corporate Strategy Department, remarked that the company’s partnership with the Centre of the World Golf Club has proven valuable. Augustine Mannesah won the professional category division of the tournament.
