IGAD Ambassadors Endorse 2026–2030 Strategy and Approve 2026 Budget in Djibouti
Addis Ababa, December 12, 2025 — In a decisive move toward shaping the region’s future, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) gathered its Committee of Ambassadors in Djibouti City to officially ratify the organization’s Strategy for 2026–2030. The newly approved plan lays out IGAD’s priorities for the next four years, with a focus on advancing peace and security, promoting deeper regional integration, boosting resilience, and strengthening collaboration among member states.
During the same session, ambassadors also sanctioned IGAD’s 2026 budget. Officials highlighted that approving the budget equips the organization to execute its strategic goals more effectively and fulfill its mandates.
IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu took to social media to thank member states for their unwavering support. He described the strategy and budget approval as a milestone that mirrors the region’s shared ambition to build a more peaceful, integrated, and resilient Horn of Africa.
With the validation process completed, IGAD is prepared to move into implementation in the coming year, setting the stage for coordinated regional initiatives under its refreshed strategic framework.
