It all began at a circus festival, a world away from the snowy bridges of Paris. Jake and I, two aspiring acrobats, crossed paths in Bathurst, Australia. Little did I know that this encounter would set the stage for a love story that would span continents and years.
Fast forward to 2018, and I found myself on a plane to Austria, joining Jake's troupe, Gravity & Other Myths. The intense training, the adrenaline-pumping performances, and the close-knit troupe life brought us closer. But it was our shared love for condiments and similar tastes in food that truly bonded us.
As our tour took us to California, the sun-soaked beaches and tacos became the backdrop for a shift in our relationship. The line between tour buddies and something more began to blur. We kept our romance under wraps, but in the cold, wintery nights of Paris, our secret rendezvous under the Canal de l'Ourcq bridge felt like a scene straight out of a romantic movie. Like two little penguins, we couldn't bear to part, chatting, giggling, and kissing for hours, oblivious to the late hour, my tiredness, or the freezing temperature.
And then, fate intervened. As the world shut down in 2020, we found ourselves back in Australia, and I moved into Jake's apartment in Adelaide. The stress of the pandemic couldn't dampen our joy; we had already weathered so much together on the road. Our relationship, born out of a shared passion for acrobatics and a love for life, had evolved organically.
Today, Alyssa Moore and Jacob Randell, the circus sweethearts, continue to tour and perform, splitting meals as they always have, but with a deeper connection and fewer bridge-huddling nights.
