Blackgang Chine Reassures Visitors After Landslip Concerns
Blackgang Chine, a beloved Isle of Wight attraction, has addressed public worries about land movement near the site. Recent photos from February show the cliff's edge dangerously close to some attractions, including the maze and T-Rex enclosure.
However, the theme park assures visitors that no significant new movement has occurred. Their monitoring system, using movement sensors and drone flights, has not detected any major issues.
A spokesperson clarifies, "The most dramatic slip visible on the beach is from a lower cliff, which extends far beyond our perimeter. It did not fall from our cliff top boundary."
Blackgang Chine emphasizes their proactive approach to land monitoring, stating, "We constantly monitor the land and will take necessary action. Safety and attraction preservation are our top priorities."
The park's management confirms that the observed movement is not new but an expected winter phenomenon. They attribute this to their diligent monitoring methods.
The Isle of Wight Council, while not having jurisdiction over the private land, emphasizes the park owners' responsibility for visitor and worker safety, supported by their on-site monitoring equipment.
Blackgang Chine, the UK's oldest theme park since 1843, is set to open for its 183rd season on March 21, 2025.
